Borderlands 4 Set to Redefine the Vault Hunter Experience This Fall
Borderlands 4 is officially set to launch on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will release on October 3, 2025. The game is developed in Unreal Engine 5 and is designed to be the largest and most open-ended entry in the series so far. The story takes place on a new alien planet called Kairos, which is controlled by a tyrant known as the Timekeeper. Players will step into the role of Vault Hunters tasked with taking down this oppressive ruler while exploring alien environments and hunting for loot. The world is seamless with no loading screens, and players will have access to new traversal tools like grappling hooks and hover bikes. Movement abilities such as double-jumping, gliding, and dodging add more variety to combat and exploration. The game supports both solo and co-op play. Up to four players can join together online, and local two-player split-screen will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Cross-play between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation is confirmed, and Switch 2 support is expected. Gearbox has emphasized that Borderlands 4 will strike a better balance in tone, avoiding the excessive humor of some past titles while keeping the trademark series personality. The themes explore freedom and control, with a narrative inspired in part by Gearbox’s own recent sale to Take-Two Interactive. Three editions of the game will be available. The Standard Edition comes with the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes four pieces of Legendary Gear and a Vault Hunter head cosmetic. The Deluxe Edition adds extra content such as the Firehawk’s Fury weapon skin and the Bounty Pack Bundle, which contains DLC missions, Vault Cards, gear, cosmetics, and vehicles. The Super Deluxe Edition includes all Deluxe content plus the Vault Hunter Pack with two additional playable Vault Hunters, two story packs with maps, and more cosmetics, along with the Ornate Order Pack featuring extra skins and parts. Endgame content will be a major focus. Players can enter Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, which allows new characters to start at level 30 and immediately dive into challenging activities. Weekly challenge missions, build customization through Specializations, and the hunt for rare loot are all central features. Post-launch content will include free seasonal events like Horrors of Kairos, recurring missions, new loot areas such as Maurice’s Black Market, and invincible bosses that can be farmed. Paid expansions are also planned, with the first story DLC titled “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned,” releasing in early 2026. Borderlands 4 is positioned to be the biggest entry in the franchise to date, combining expansive gameplay, deeper storytelling, and long-term support through both free and paid updates. @https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26vY2GMfYTw
